S.E Hinton story, “The Outsides,” takes place in the city of Oklahoma. The place were theirs a lot of gangs and bad people. The conflict is that Ponyboys hair got cut off so he won’t be recognized, plus Ponyboy died.  The theme development is that Ponyboy is in a gang and is from Oklahoma. I believe it’s bad because it’s a gang affiliated group called a gang. One lesson in the story is don’t be in a gang or follow others and another thing is retaliation is everything.

 

In the beginning of the story Ponyboy was walking home from the movies and on his walk home from the movies he had got jumped by a group of Social’s. That specific action will go with my second theme retaliation is everything. Just because ponyboy is a greaser and they don’t like greasers they decided to jump him. Which is a unnecessary retaliation that could’ve been avoided but because he was a greaser they decided to attack him anyways.

 

In the middle of the story Johnny kills a soc. Pony boy and Johnny runaway to a church. The mood then in this particular part of the story is kind of changing and it’s starting to get sad. In the story Ponyboy is feeling guilty because he keeps thinking about Johnny killing a soc to save his life. From the time they are in the church  they are thinking about everything bad they ever done and piecing their life together basically becoming a wiser person in that church.

 

Towards the end of the story Johnny gets injured from saving kids from the burning church and he ends up dying. It triggers Dally into doing some doing some pretty regretful stuff. Because  of Johnny dyeing Dally went to go rob a store which is another example of my theme retaliation is everything. Dallas was upset when Johnny died and he didn’t know how to handle it so he decided to go do some stuff that he regrets and that soon caused him to lose his own life. His retaliation wasn’t good so the outcome of that wasn’t good either.

 

So what we all get from this story is be careful about how you react to different stuff. Your retaliation is everything and how you respond is everything too. Retaliation killed 4 people which is a bad thing.
